Florida, MI, United States (4E Sports) – Coaches voted the defending national champs, Florida State Seminoles, no. 1 in the the preseason college football Coaches Poll.
FSU garnered a total of 56 out of 62 first-place votes that were tallied.
Coach Jimbo Fisher is excited entering the season as No. 1 and believes the Seminoles need to live up to the hype.
“That’s going to be our objective. We’re proud to start there and now we just have to go play great football,” Fisher shared with USA Today.
Following Florida State are Alabama, Oklahoma, Oregon and last year’s BSC finalists, Auburn.
Rounding up the top ten are Ohio State at No. 6, followed by UCLA, Michigan State, South Carolina and Baylor.
Fisher also said there is no added pressure entering this season, they just need to focus on their goals.
“Our goal every year is to win the national championship. That’s why we’re at Florida State.”
The seven-year domination of the SEC ended last year after FSU defeated Auburn for the BSC title.
The poll is led by the SEC with seven teams in the poll, followed by Pac-12 which is represented by six teams.
The Big 12 and Big Ten each have four teams in the poll to complete the list.
A four-team College Football Playoff will conclude the 2014 season.
The championship game will then be played on January 12, 2015 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
