Las Vegas, NV, United States (4E Sports) – Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva will stage a comeback against Nick Diaz on Jan. 31 in the main event of UFC 183 in Las Vegas.
“The greatest of all time, Anderson Silva, is back,” said White, who also announced that it will be a 185-pound contest for five rounds.
Silva (33-6) has received medical clearance after fracturing his left leg during a TKO loss to Chris Weidman at UFC 168 in December.
He underwent emergency surgery that involved the insertion of a titanium rod.
The 39-year-old Brazilian holds the all-time UFC record for consecutive title defenses at 10 in a six-year title reign.
Diaz (26-9) last fought in a unanimous decision loss to Georges St-Pierre for the UFC welterweight title in March 2013.
The 13-year veteran campaigned alomst exclusively at 170 pounds.
“Nick Diaz is a very popular fighter as it is,” White said. “If he comes back and beats Anderson Silva, he could fight for the title. He’s right there.”
