Cleveland, OH, United States (4E Sports) – Almost three weeks after his return to Cleveland, LeBron James announced via Twitter that he will be using his old No. 23 for the Cavaliers next season.
James tweeted, “23 it is! It’s only right I go back. 2·3=6 We still family 6. #HomeTeam #StriveForGreatness.”
He also shared an Instagram link together with the tweet.
The photo showed James on draft night and him sporting the No. 23 in the NBA and in high school.
James shifted to his Olympic No. 6 to help the NBA formally retire Jordan’s number, which did not happen.
A couple of players still wore the No. 23 when James decided to stick with No. 6 in Miami.
These includes Jason Richardson (Philadelphia 76ers), Draymond Green (Golden State Warriors), Anthony Davis (New Orleans Pelicans) and Kevin Martin (Minnesota Timberwolves).
Adidas representative Madeline Breskin stated that they already prepared their machines for production.
Blake Lundberg, vice president of the facility, said they will be shipping No. 23 merchandise to over 140 accounts in the next two days, according to ESPN.
James sported the No. 23 in his rookie season until the decision to leave Cleveland for Miami in 2010.
