New York, NY, United States (4E Sports) – Dallas Mavericks guard Raymond Felton avoided jail time Wednesday after pleading guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon.
He was instead sentenced to community service and a $5,000 fine by a New York court.
Felton agreed last month to terms on a plea deal that prosecutors outlined to avoid jail time.
His estranged wife’s lawyer brought a loaded semi-automatic handgun to a police precinct and said it was Felton’s.
Felton was charged under a state law that bans many large-capacity ammunition magazines.
The NBA indicated it is monitoring the case, and typically issues suspensions following guilty pleas.
