Manchester, England, United Kingdom (4E Sports) – A fractured left hand suffered during his final sparring session forced Dereck Chisora to withdraw from a rematch against Tyson Fury.
Promoter Frank Warren announced that due to the injury Chisora-Fury 2 will be postponed.
The fight between Billy Joe Saunders and Emanuel Blandamura for the vacant European middleweight title will now be the major event of the card.
Chisora and Fury were scheduled to have their rematch at the Phones 4u Arena in Manchester, England.
The bout will be for Chisora’s European title and will determine the next contender for Wladimir Klitschko’s world championship.
“I can’t tell you how disappointed I am to have to pull out of the fight against Fury, but it is on the advice of my specialist that I have to do this,” Chisora said.
Chisora also apologized to the fans and promised he will come back to set a new date for the rematch.
Warren stated that the incident is a huge dissappointment, although they will be trying to reschedule the fight as soon as they can.
“It’s a big heavyweight fight with a lot at stake for both fighters, and we’re working hard to get a new date confirmed,” Warren said.
Fury defeated Chisora on their first match on July 2011, handing Chisora his first defeat and winning the British and Commonwealth titles.
This will be the third time Fury’s scheduled fight will be cancelled.
The first two were with David Haye and now Chisora postponed another one for Fury.
Chisora tweeted to Fury saying, “@Tyson_Fury sorry mate would have been a very good fight we get it on next month don’t complain about the money you give 10,000 to your kids.”
There are still no statements from Fury regarding the fight.
