New York, NY, United States (4E Sports) – Cleveland Cavaliers superstar forward LeBron James is the most popular male athlete in America, according to a new poll by Harris Interactive, which surveyed 2,241 people last month.
It was the first time for James to be voted for the distinction.
He fell out of the top 10 in 2011 after choosing the Miami Heat over the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Chicago Bulls great and Charlotte Hornets owner, Michael Jordan, who has not played basketball in more than a decade, came in at No. 2. He topped the poll from 1993-2005 and was No. 1 again last year.
James was most popular among the 18-36 and 49-67 age demographics, while those from 37-48, called the Generatrion Xers, preferred Jordan.
Rounding out the top 5 is retiring New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter at No. 2, Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning who came in at third and Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant and NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. in a tie for fifth.
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is No. 7, golfer Tiger Woods is at No. 8, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is No. 9 and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is at No. 10.
Meanwhile, Serena Williams was voted the most popular female athlete. Danica Patrick took the No. 2 spot while Venus Williams came in at third. Joining the top five are Maria Sharapova at No. 4 and retired soccer player Mia Hamm who came at No. 5.
Skier Lindsey Vonn tied with retired tennis player Billie Jean King for No. 6, soccer player Alex Morgan was tied at No. 8 spot with another retired tennis player Chris Evert, and beach volleyball player Misty May came in at No. 10.
