Sandy, UT, United States (4E Sports) – Joao Plata’s 81st minute goal allowed Real Salt Lake to force a 1-1 draw against the Vancouver Whitecaps, Saturday at Rio Tinto Stadium.

The home team missed on several early chances before the Whitecaps began to gain more ball possession late in the first half.

Darren Mattocks scored on a penalty kick in the 73rd minute after a foul call against RSL defender Nat Borchers in the penalty area, putting the Whitecaps up 1-0.

Plata then took a pass from Kyle Beckerman, outran Steven Beitashour and beat David Ousted at the far post to tie the match.

Luke Mulholland tried to steal a win for RSL but his kick in the 83rd minute sailed high.

Robbie Findley followed suit but a collision with Ousted kept him from slotting a goal in stoppage time.
