Vantage, WA, United States (NewsBahn) – Fifteen cars and nine tractor-trailers reportedly engaged in a crash on Interstate 90 Thursday morning, with about a dozen people receiving injuries in the incident according to the Washington state patrol.
Department of Transportation spokeswoman Meagan Lott said wind gusts blew up dust in the area.
“We had a brush fire that started in the median that was started from a motor home fire the other day, two days ago. That caught the brush on fire, and now there’s no vegetation to hold the dirt down. And the wind’s picked up and has blown the dirt from that ground across the roadway,” trooper Darren Wright said.
Five women, two girls and two men were taken to Quincy Valley Medical Center. Four others were reportedly at Kittitas Valley Healthcare and said to be in satisfactory condition according to KIRO-TV.
The chain-reaction crash is still officially under investigation.
