Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Lauded actor Christopher Walken is all set to play the role of Captain Hook in NBC’s upcoming “Peter Pan” live musical, it was announced Sunday.
At the Television Critics Association press tour, NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt said, that Walken is “a song and dance man at heart.”
He added, “He’s fearless as a comedic actor and always comes to play. I guarantee you he’s going to bring his own spin to Captain Hook. He might be the first tap-dancing Captain Hook.”
In a statement, Greenblatt said, “his love of musicals and uncanny abilities as a dancer make him perfect for stepping into this classic James M. Barrie character. Get ready to be charmed, amused, frightened and dazzled by Captain Hook in an entirely original way.”
The 71-year-old actor, of his new feat, said in a statement, “I started my career in musicals and it’s wonderful after all this time, at this point in my career, to be in this classic musical I watched as a child and to work with Neil Meron and Craig Zadan again after ‘Hairspray.’ It’s a chance to put on my tap shoes again.”
Walken, who has gathered many awards and nominations for his acting both on the big and small screens, has also exhibited his talent in theater, appearing in a number of Broadway plays such as “Baker Street,” “The Merchant of Venice” and “A Behanding in Spokane,” among many others, and the 2007 musical film “Hairspray.”
To be produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, “Peter Pan Live!” is scheduled to air on December 4 on NBC.
