Barcelona, Spain (4E Sports) – Luis Suarez is set to sign a five-year contract for around 80 million euros with FC Barcelona even though the he is serving a four-month ban.
An agreement has been reached with Liverpool for the striker, who will travel to Barcelona for a physical next week.
Suarez, 27, said that playing and living in Spain where his wife’s family live is a lifelong dream and ambition.
The Uruguay international, who joined Liverpool in 2011 from Ajax, scored 31 goals last season to lead the team to a second-place Premier League finish and a return to Champions League football.
He won both the PFA Players’ Player of the Year and Football Writers’ Player of the Year awards last season.
Suarez was banned by FIFA from all football-related activity for four months after biting Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini in a World Cup match.
With FIFA rejecting Suarez’s appeal of his ban Thursday, he is now expected to ask the Court of Arbitration for Sport to freeze his sanctions during his appeal process.
If granted, Suarez would be allowed to train and play with FC Barcelona until a final verdict is reached.
