NY, NY, United States (4E Sports) – Oakland Raiders running back Maurice Jones-Drew believes that the city of London should have its own franchise in the league.
As the NFL’s International series continues to roll, there will be three games scheduled to be played in London.
The first of three will feature the Raiders taking on the Miami Dolphins in the Wembley Stadium.
In a statement by Jones-Drew to Neil Reynolds of BritviewNFL.com, he says the city must have its own team because it deserves one.
“It’s just the toll it takes on the body because it’s so hard to fly across the pond. I think the fans deserve it and London deserves it because it is a great city,” Jones-Drew added.
The running back played his first game at the Wembley Stadium in 2013 as a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Jaguars then faced the San Francisco 49ers to which they lost, 42-10.
In a losing effort against the 49ers in 2013, Jones-Drew rushed for 75 yards on 19 carries and caught six passes for 47 yards.
If London is awarded a team, there will be concerns that must be addressed.
One of them according to Jones-Drew is getting a team to play at home and overseas. It will surely be a factor to consider.
“There are some things they would have to work on — they might have to bring the Concorde back and cut that time in half,” he suggested.
According to ESPN, the NFL has been open to possibilities of a full-time franchise in London.
