Albert Pujols’ seventh-inning homer lifts Angels past Jays

Anaheim, CA, United States (4E Sports) – Albert Pujols hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning to lead the Los Angeles Angels past the Toronto Blue Jays, 8-7 Wednesday at Angel Stadium of Anaheim.

Angels starter C.J. Wilson gave up 3 runs and eight hits in striking out a batter through 3 2/3 innings.

Jason Grilli (1-1) pitched a scoreless seventh, striking out cleanup hitter Jose Bautista.

Howie Kendrick and David Freese each had an RBI single to put the Angels up 2-0 lead in the second.

Munenori Kawasaki got one run back for the Blue Jays in the third on a bases-loaded walk to Nolan Reimold.

A Josh Hamilton single opened up a run for Pujols to give the Angels a 3-1 lead in the bottom half of the third.

A wild pitch by Wilson allowed a run by Dioner Navarro before a single by Steve Tolleson and a double by Reimold made put the jays up 6-3 in the fourth.

Then Freese plated on a wild pitch by Blue Jays starter Marcus Stroman before Kole Calhoun homered to tie the game at 6 in the botttom half of the fourth.

The Blue Jays took a 7-6 lead in the sixth on Navarro’s two-out RBI single.

Pujols responded with a homer against Aaron Loop (2-2) that also plated Mike Trout for the 8-7 winning margin

Stroman gave up five earned runs and eight hits wwhile striking out four through 3 2/3 innings.
