Newport, RI, United States (4E Sports) – Defending champion Nicolas Mahut booked a spot in the quarterfinal of the Hall Of Fame Tennis Championships via a 6-4, 6-2 victory over qualifier Luke Saville Wednesday.
The 32-year-old Mahut converted four of his seven break points and fired seven aces to advance in just 70 minutes.
For a spot in the semifinal, Mahut will play Samuel Groth, who hit 24 aces in a 7-6(7), 7-6(3) win over Malek Jaziri in one hour and 42 minutes.
Third seed and 2013 runner-up Hewitt claimed his third consecutive quarterfinal berth in Newport with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over qualifier Ante Pavic.
