College Station, TX, United States (4E Sports) – Kyler Murray says he feels no pressure being the “heir apparent” to friend Johnny Manziel at Texas A&M next season.
“We do play similar, and I can’t deny that. But pressure? No, there’s none of that going to A&M,” said Murray.
The No. 14 overall prospect in the ESPN 300, Murray committed to Texas A&M in late May to be the highest-ranked quarterback recruit since Jameis Winston.
The comparisons between Manziel and Murray are expected.
Manziel starred as a multidimensional quarterback at Tivy High in Kerrville while Murray led Allen High to back-to-back state titles and was named the Gatorade Player of the Year as a junior.
Murray leaned on Manziel when he was deciding between Texas A&M and Oregon.
“Johnny really helped me out a lot and gave me both sides because he wanted what’s best for me as a quarterback,” said Murray.
Murray said Manziel doesn’t usually give him advice as they just talk as friends.
The two QBs met at the Elite 11 competition two years ago, and they’ve been friendly ever since.
