Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – A leaked and unedited version of Britney Spears’ “Alien” has been making rounds on the Internet, and on Wednesday, producer William Orbit has come to the singer’s defense saying the song was nothing but a “warm up” exercise.

“Dearest Music Lovers, I have heard that Britney vocal link that everybody’s been discussing,” Orbit wrote on his official Facebook page. “It has been impossible not to as there have been many comments directing my attention to it. [I won't re-posting it here]. I’d like to affirm that ANY singer when first at the mic at the start of a long session can make a multitude of vocalisations in order to get warmed up. “

He then explained that warming up the vocal chords is essential to any singer, and that it helps the engineer “get their systems warmed up at the right level” as well. He then stressed that the version was “not supposed to be shared with millions of listeners.” Aside from Spears, Orbit has also worked with Madonna, Blur and All Saints.

Orbit concluded, “Whomever put this on the internet must have done so in a spirit of unkindness, but it can in no way detract from the fact that Britney is and always will be beyond Stellar! She is magnificent! And that’s that. “

The 32-year-old singer’s unedited un-auto-tuned version has since been taken down on YouTube due to copyright claims, though some netizens were quick to have copied and re-posted clips of it.
