Cleveland, OH, United States (4E Sports) – The Cleveland Indians’ Justin Masterson who just pitched nine innings over his last three starts, has been placed on the 15-day disabled list due to continuing knee troubles.
Last year’s All-Star has really struggled since mid-May, posting a 7.01 ERA and 41/33 K/BB ratio in 44 innings while his ERA has risen to 5.51.
The pitcher himself is baffled by the lack of success.
“I think I feel good. I don’t know. Who knows? It’s one of those where it’s a tick [off]. You’re so close and yet you’re so far away. I felt like tonight was going to be such a great one,” Masterson stated.
Manager Terry Francona respects Masterson’s desire to pitch but says he needs to get healthy.
Francona said he can’t keep running Masterson out on the mound as his short starts strain the bullpen.
“It’s hard to keep doing that and keep the bullpen not only healthy, but productive,” Francona added.
In three months, Masterson will be a free agent and the future may not be bright for the pitcher unless he can turn the season around.
