Charlotte, NC, United States (4E Sports) – Charlotte Hornets rookie guard P.J. Hairston is facing charges of assault and battery for allegedly punching a high school student Sunday in North Carolina.
According to the player’s agent, Juan Morrow, the incident happened in a pickup game and was triggered by the student’s push against Hairston.
It resulted in a shoving match before it reportedly escalated into a fight.
“He swung at P.J., and P.J. swung back,” Morrow said, adding “both connected.”
The 6-foot-6, 230-pound Hairston, who hasn’t been signed, is scheduled to appear in Durham County Court for the charges.
Hairston has a history of off-court issues including an arrest for marijuana possession that later revealed a weapon possession while he was a student athlete at UNC.
