Cleveland, OH, United States (NewsBahn) – Cleveland has reportedly edged out Dallas to host the 2016 GOP convention, according to several reports.

The Ohio city could reap millions of dollars in tourism for the mid-July event. The Republicans are moving the event up from August to give their standard-bearer more time to use campaign cash on the political trail.

Dallas, Denver, Colorado, and Kansas City, Missouri were also being considered by the Republicans. Winning Ohio will be crucial to their chances at winning the presidency, however, as it has been for nearly every election.

“We’re excited about bringing the convention to Cleveland and Ohio,” RNC chairman Reince Priebus said on Fox News. “It’s a smart decision.”

Birmingham, Columbus, New York City, Philadelphia and Phoenix are the cities Democrats will be selecting among for their convention.
