Canberra, Australia (4E) – Australia’s construction sector expanded in June, according to the survey results from the Australian Industry Group (AiG) released Monday.
The index stood at 51.8 in June, way up from May’s 46.7, representing the highest level since 55.2 in November 2013. A reading above 50 indicates expansion in the sector, while a reading below 50 means contraction.
Individual components of the index including new orders, engineering construction, house building growth and construction activity all posted firm readings.
The increases were dragged by weakness in construction employment, commercial construction and apartment buildings.
