Salvador, Brazil (NewsBahn) – Kevin De Bruyne notched an overtime goal and assist as Belgium moved on to the World Cup quarterfinals with a 2-1 win over the U.S. Tuesday afternoon.

Belgium moves on to face superstar Lionel Messi and Argentina, while the Americans have to lament a squandered opportunity.

Tim Howard was terrific in goal for the Americans, but De Bruyne nestled a shot into the left corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.

Lukaku later beat his Everton teammate by drilling a shot inside the near post for a 2-0 Belgium advantage.

A determined American side didn’t give up, with Julian Green’s tally off a volley two minutes after Lukaku’s goal at the 105 minute mark.

The U.S. couldn’t net the equalizer, however, and will have to watch as another champion gets crowned instead.
