Germany holds off Algeria, moves on to quarters matchup vs. France

Porto Alegre, Brazil (NewsBahn) – André Schürrle scored in the 92nd minute and André Schürrle tallied in the final minute of regulation, lifting Germany to a 2-1 win over Algeria Monday in World Cup play.

Abdelmoumene Djabou scored in extra time for Algeria, but it proved to not be enough.

Germany will move on to a quarter-final meeting with France in the Maracana.

Germany racked up 29 shots, including 22 on net. Algeria had just 11 shots, including 7 on goal.

The Germans enjoyed a 70 to 30 percent advantage in ball possession.
