New Orleans, LA, United States (4E) – Nine people were injured in a shooting in New Orleans’ French Quarter early Sunday and one of them remains in critical condition.

The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) have yet to identify the victims and the shooter, whom an eyewitness said shot a man first before opening fire onto the crowd in the 700 block of Bourbon Street around 2:45 a.m. The NOPD also is still investigating to determine the motive of the shooting.

Seven of the injured people did not suffer life-threatening injury and are in stable condition while one had to undergo surgery. The one in critical condition is a woman.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu said the NOPD will bring the perpetrators to justice. He vowed to keep the city safe.

Last February, a shooting also happened on Bourbon Street, which is popular to tourists and revelers for its bars and clubs. The shooting that injured four people was also triggered by an argument.

During Halloween 2011, gunmen fired at each other in Bourbon Street killing one person and injuring seven others.
