Endy Chavez’ homer propels Mariners past Indians

Seattle, WA, United States (4E Sports) – Endy Chavez singled and scored in the first inning and homered in the seventh to lead the Seattle Mariners over the Cleveland Indians, 3-2 Friday at Safeco Field.

Kyle Seager’s single to center in the first plated Chavez for a 1-0 lead.

The Indians tied the game in the third after Michael Brantley’s bases-loaded sacrifice fly scored David Murphy.

In the fourth, Michael Saunders scored the Mariners’ second run in the fourth on an RBI single by Brad Miller for a 2-1 lead.

Chavez then homered in the seventh to put the Mariners up 3-1.

Nick Swisher singled and scored on Michael Bourn’s two-out single in the ninth to cut the Indians deficit to 3-2.

The Mariners’ right-hander Chris Young (7-4) gave up four hits and one run in five innings.

The Indians’ Trevor Bauer relinquished three runs on nine hits over 6 1/3 innings.
