Des Moines, IA, United States (NewsBahn) – Iowa’s sweet corn won’t be ready for the 4th of July weekend, according to farmers.
The state’s most famous crop is expected to be ready just a few days after the holiday, however, they say.
“It’s kind of a bummer, because everyone wants some. But it’s something we can’t rush,” Michelle Christenson, a co-owner of Grimes Sweetcorn told the Des Moines Register.
Cool spring temperatures delayed sweet corn, though bok choy, arugula, kale and spinach are good to go. If Iowans are set on sweet corn immediately, it’s available from other states as well.
“It’s not Iowa sweet corn, but it still sells very well,” Mike Orf of Hy-Vee Foods told the paper.
