Barbora Zahlavova Strycova stuns No. 2 Li Na at Wimbledon

Wimbledon, England, United Kingdom (4E Sports) – Barbora Zahlavova Strycova stunned two-time Grand Slam champion and second seed Li Na, 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-5), at Wimbledon Friday to reach the fourth round of a major for the first time in her career.

“I think I did great today mentally,” said Zahlavova Strycova, who clinched her first win over a Top 10 player in 25 tries.

Next up for Zahlavova Strycova is 16th-seeded Caroline Wozniacki, who cruised past teenager Ana Konjuh 6-3, 6-0 in 70 minutes.

Meanwhile, fourth seed Agnieszka Radwanska cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Michelle Larcher de Brito to advance against No. 22 Ekaterina Makarova, who bested Caroline Garcia, 7-5, 6-3.

Sixth seed Petra Kvitova defeated five-time Wimbledon champ Venus Williams, 5-7, 7-6 (7-2), 7-5, to reach the fourth round against Peng Shuai, who rallied past American Lauren Davis 0-6, 6-3, 6-3.

The 34-year-old former world No. 1 Williams hasn’t made it to the fourth round at Wimbledon since 2011.

Other winners were Lucie Safarova, Tereza Smitkova, Simona Halep, and Belinda Bencic.

On the men’s side, Novak Djokovic defeated Gilles Simon, 6-4, 6-2, 6-4, in two hours and 12 minutes to advance to the fourth round.

There was some scary moment for Djokovic when he slipped and landed on his left shoulder at 30/30, when Gilles Simon was serving at 2-3 in the third set.

The top seed and 2011 champion required four minutes of treatment but regained his composure to beat Simon and advance against No. 14 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, a 6-2, 6-2, 7-5 winner over No. 147-ranked Jimmy Wang.

Defending champion Andy Murray dismissed Roberto Bautista Agut, 6-2, 6-3, 6-2, to reach the fourth round against Kevin Anderson, who beat No. 16 Fabio Fognini, 4-6, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 in two hours and 45 minutes.

Other winners were Jerzy Janowicz, Tommy Robredo, Feliciano Lopez, John Isner, Santiago Giraldo, Grigor Dimitrov, Leonardo Mayer and Jeremy Chardy.
