Detroit, MI, United States (NewsBahn) – A Detroit youngster, believed to be missing for about 12 days, was found holed up in the basement of his family’s home Wednesday.

Charlie Bothuell V was hidden by a makeshift barricade that police believe he couldn’t have put together by himself and food was reportedly located near him.

“In 37 years of policing, I will tell you, I’ve never seen anything quite like this,” Detroit Police Chief James Craig said. “But the outcome, I couldn’t be happier.”

Authorities are reportedly investigating the matter, although the family denies any form of child abuse was involved.

“For anybody to imply that I somehow knew that my son was in the basement, it’s absurd and it’s wrong,” Charlie’s father, Charlie Bothuell IV, said at the scene. “I love my son. I’m glad that he’s home and he’s going to have the great future that he deserves to have.

Young Charlie will be looked at by a doctor and police, who searched the home several times several times since he was missing, are unsure he was at the premises the entire time he was missing.
