John Norwood’s clutch homer powers Vandy to CWS title

Omaha, NE, United States (NewsBahn) – John Norwood cracked a tiebreaking homer in the top of the eighth inning, lifting Vanderbilt to a 3-2 win Wednesday in the third and deciding game of the College World Series.

The Commodores won the series 2-1.

Vanderbilt hit just 22 homers on the season, including three by Norwood.

The Commodores went 51-21, while the Cavaliers ended their season 53-16.

Vandy’s Dansby Swanson batted .323, scored five runs, drove in two and stole three bases and was named CWS Most Outstanding Player.

“I think I’m in shock…I couldn’t be anymore proud of those guys!!! Absolutely beautiful!!!,” tweeted ex-Vandy pitcher David Price, now with Tampa Bay.
