Bakersfield, CA, United States (4E Sports) – Top NBA draft prospect Joel Embiid will reportedly need four to six months to fully recover from surgery to address a stress fracture to the right navicular bone.
The 7-foot center from Cameroon had two screws inserted into his right foot in the procedure.
Dr. Richard Ferkel, who performed the surgery at Southern California Orthopedic Institute, claimed Embiid should “be able to return to NBA basketball.”
Embiid was projected by many to be the first pick before the injury was discovered by doctors of the Cleveland Cavaliers, who owns the top pick of the 2014 draft.
He averaged 11.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.6 blocks this past season as a freshman at Kansas.
Embiid is not attending Thursday’s NBA draft because he can’t fly for 10 days to two weeks post-surgery.
