Boston, MA, United States (4E Sports) – Nick Swisher hit the go-ahead homer in the 11th frame to carry the Cleveland Indians to a 3-2 win over the Boston Red Sox Sunday at Fenway Park.
Swisher smacked Junichi Tazawa’s 2-1 pitch over the right field wall for his fourth homer of the year as the Indians salvaged a split of a four-game series with the Red Sox, improving to 35-35.
Cody Allen (3-1) got the win after tossing two scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Starter Corey Kluber gave up two runs on five hits with four walks and four strikeouts in 5 1/3 frames for the Indians, who got a solo shot from Michael Brantley.
Tazawa absorbed the loss after giving up the game-winning homer to Swisher as the Red Sox fell to 31-38. Brandon Workman lasted six frames, allowing two runs on five hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.
Brantley put the Indians ahead with a solo shot, his 11th of the year, in the first inning but David Ortiz retaliated with an RBI single in the bottom part to tie the game.
In the fifth, Dustin Pedroia hit an RBI grounder to put the Red Sox ahead but Yan Gomes knotted the score anew with a run-scoring sacrifice in the seventh.
