Pinehurst, NC, United States (NewsBahn) – Martin Kaymer parlayed two outstanding 65 rounds and a solid 69 on Sunday to run away with the U.S. Open title.

The German, who led all four days, won by eight shots over Erik Compton and Rickie Fowler.

Rory McIlroy (16 under in 2011) and Tiger Woods (12 under in 2000) carded lower 72-hole scores at the Open previously though Kaymer was dominant as well.

Phil Mickelson, hoping to cap a career slam by winning all the majors, shot a 2-over 72 Sunday and was 7 over for the tourney.
