David Ortiz’ two-run homer fuels Red Sox past Indians

Boston, MA, United States (4E Sports) – David Ortiz hit a two-run homer as the Boston Red Sox defeated the Cleveland Indians, 5-2 Thursday at Fenway Park.

John Lester (7-7) allowed two runs with one earned on eight hits and a walk with four strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings in the win.

Koji Uehara pitched a perfect ninth for his 14th save.

Grady Sizemore’s RBI double in the second put the Red Sox up 1-0 before Ortiz’ two-run homer in the fifth made it a 3-0 lead.

Then Jason Kipnis had a two-run single in the sixth to cut the Indians’ deficit to 3-2.

But Brock Holt hit a two-out, two-run double to restore a Red Sox three-point lead at 5-2.

Jackie Bradley Jr. then helped protect the Red Sox lead in the top of the seventh with a spectacular inning-ending double play.

The Indians’ Josh Tomlin (4-3) allowed four runs with three earned on nine hits over 5 2/3 innings, striking out three and walking two.
