Henderson, NV, United States (NewsBahn) – A drum of fuel near a bonfire exploded Monday night in the desert outside Henderson, causing injuries to seven youngsters.

A “flammable liquid was added to the fire,” said Clark County firefighters who otherwise had little to add on their investigation into the incident.

A group of high school students from Basic initially lit the bonfire “about 5 miles south of Horizon Ridge Parkway.” County spokesman Dan Kulin said in a press release Tuesday.

All of the teenagers are expected to recover, but two girls remained in intensive care, one with burns on over 65 percent of her body and the other with burns on 85 percent of her body.

A boy had reportedly moved the drum fuel near the bonfire, which erupted about 20 minutes later.
