Student, gunman dead in OR high school shooting

Troutdale, OR, United States (4E) – Two people are dead and a teacher was wounded after a shooting took place inside the Reynolds High School in Troutdale, Oregon Tuesday morning.

Police said a student and the gunman were killed in the 8 a.m. shooting, but did not identify them and did not say how both died.

The injured was identified as PE teacher Todd Rispler, who was grazed by a bullet near his hip and taken to a hospital for treatment.

Some 100 police officers from different agencies and SWAT members surrounded the public school located at 1698 S.W. Cherry Park Road after gunfire were heard. They searched the school for possible other gunmen and evacuated students. The high school has about 2,800 students in grades 9-12.

FBI agents also arrived at the scene later.

The school was locked down for a few hours after the shooting and students were told to lock their classrooms. The police also kept other people away from the area.

Parents of students later reunited with their children at the parking lot of the Wood Village Fred Meyer, located at N.E. 223rd and N.E. Glisan Street. The students were taken to the Fred Meyer by TriMet buses in groups of around 30 at a time and handed over to parents or guardians upon arriving in the parking lot.
