Tampa Bay, FL, United States (4E Sports) – The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed left wing Ondrej Palat to a three-year contract, locking up the other half of their talented rookie duo.
The Lightning did not reveal terms of the deal but a source said the contract is worth $10 million — with $2.8 million in 2014-15, $3.2 million in 2015-16 and $4 million in the final season.
The Lightning had signed rookie center Tyler Johnson to the same three-year contract on May 23.
Palat and Johnson — as well as Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche — are finalists for the Calder Trophy, given to the league’s top rookie.
Palat had 23 goals — just one behind Johnson’s rookie team-record — and had 36 assists this past season. He finished plus-32 for the season.
