Kings rally past Rangers for 2OT win

Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E Sports) – Dustin Brown redirected Willie Mitchell’s shot for the deciding goal in10:26 of second overtime as the Los Angeles Kings outlasted the New York Rangers, 5-4 Saturday at Staples Center.

The Kings now lead the Stanley Cup Finals 2-0.

Ryan McDonagh and Mats Zuccarello had first period goals to give the Rangers a 2-0 lead.

Jarret Stoll answered with a goal for the Kings at 1:46 of the second but Martin St’ Louis restored the Rangers two-goal lead after a power play tally at 11:24.

The Kings cut into the lead again on a power play goal by Willie Mitchell at 14:39. Derrhick Brassard neutralized his effort with a goal 11 seconds later to give the Rangers a 4-2 lead entering the third period.

Dwight King kicked off the Kings’ comeback early in the third before Marian Gaborik tied it with 12:24 left in regulation.

The teams traded scoring chances in the two overtimes before Mitchell teed up a long shot which Brown deflected under Henrik Lundqvist’s glove arm.

Jonathan Quick had 34 saves for the Kings while Lundqvist made 39 saves for the Rangers.

Game 3 is on Monday at Madison Square Garden.
