VA naval hospital in lockdown after stabbing

Portsmouth, VA, United States (4E) – A service member was stabbed and critically wounded by another man in front of the private military store at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth on Friday morning.

Base officials immediately ordered the lockdown of the hospital and patients and staff were ordered to shelter in place while security forces search for the suspect identified by the Navy as Wilbur Harwell.

A SWAT team, FBI agents and local policemen were on site to secure the facility and look for the suspect described as a white male with blond hair and blue eyes, weighting 165 pounds, and wearing tan cargo pants and a white shirt.

The stabbing victim is in the same hospital in critical condition.
