Vestavia Hills, AL, United States (4E Sports) – Fifteen of the top bass anglers put their preparation for the Mark’s Open as they gave inspirational speeches about bass angling to fishing aficionados at Mark’s Outdoors Pro Day at Logan Martin Lake.

Among those who spoke to the public was 2014 Bassmaster Classic Champion Randy Howell.

Pro Day is an event where the fishing public can meet their favorite bass anglers and get tips from the pro. Some fans also got their outfits and equipment autographed by pro anglers.

Several product vendors had displays of new baits and fishing gear. Some had rods and reels set up so visitors could try their hand at casting and flipping. A complementary catfish lunch was served from 11:30a.m.-1p.m.

The Mark’s Open is the largest in the state of Alabama with 526 boats entered. This is the 20th anniversary of the fishing tournament founded by Mark Whitlock back in 1994.

Whitlock lost his battle with cancer in May 2012 but his wife Dana and daughter Shelly Smith have kept the tournament going and have continued to add new things each year.

This year the tournament has been moved from Lay Lake to Logan Martin Lake and will be launched at the Pell City Park launch.

The fishing tournament will be launched Saturday at safe daylight with the weigh-in starting at 3 p.m. at the launch. The public is invited to attend and there is no admission fee.

Tournament sponsors have paid the registration fee for 175 parent-child boats. The pro anglers will also be drawn to fish with children. 15-20 lucky kids will get to fish with a pro bass angler.
