New York, NY, United States (4E Sports) – The New York Islanders have acquired the negotiating rights for defenseman Dan Boyle by sending back a conditional fifth-round pick in the 2015 NHL draft to the San Jose Sharks.
This will become a fourth-round pick should Boyle, an impending unrestricted free agent, signs with the team.
Boyle, 37, is coming off a six-year, $40 million dollar deal with the Sharks.
He had 12 goals and 36 points this season and is the franchise leader for defensemen in goals (68), assists (201) and points (269) in 431 games played.
Boyle was acquired by the Sharks in a trade with Tampa Bay before the 2008 season.
He could not agree with Sharks general manager Doug Wilson on the length of a potential contract extension, and the latter also wants younger players next season.
