Justin Williams’ overtime goal lifts Kings over Rangers in Cup opener

Los Angeles, CA, United States (NewsBahn) – Justin Williams scored 4:36 into overtime, lifting the Los Angeles Kings to a 3-2 win over the New York Rangers Wednesday in game one of the Stanley Cup finals.

The Kings trailed 2-0 but scored three straight goals to notch the win.

Kyle Clifford scored late in the opening period to cut the Rangers lead to 2-1 and Drew Doughty knotted the contest with a tally in the second stanza.

Benoit Pouliot and Carl Hagelin scored in the first period, the latter in a shorthanded situation, for New York, making its first finals appearance in two decades.

The Kings peppered Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist with 43 shots, while L.A. goalie Jonathan Quick turned aside 25 of 27 shots.

Game 2 is Saturday in Los Angeles before the series heads to NY for games 3 and 4.
