Visit Clearfield County Lists Weekly Events

CLEARFIELD – The staff at Visit Clearfield County (VCC) have listed its weekly events for May 30 through June 5.

Ritz Theater, downtown Clearfield

The theater lobby opens at 6:30 p.m. You can pick up some popcorn even if you cannot attend any of the movie showings.

Maybe you’ve never fished before, but always wanted to learn how? Perhaps you have used a spinning rod in the past and feel like trying something new? Friday Night Dinner, The Smokehouse

There is a steak/fish dinner at The Smokehouse on Friday nights. The dinner is available for $8.99 from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. It includes a choice of two sides: mashed potatoes, fries, vegetables, coleslaw or cottage cheese. The dinner benefits the Rescue Hose & Ladder Company.

Evening Souders Trail Hike, Parker Dam

Friday, May 30

7 p.m. – Ball Field

Join us for a peaceful evening walk along the Souders Trail. Participants will learn about the history of the park as we look for remnants of the lumber era and signs of spring life. Carnival, DuBois City Park

Friday, May 30

There will be a carnival at the DuBois City Memorial Park through Saturday, May 31. It will take place from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. and will include rides, music, food and vendors.

Corner Concert Series

Singing Strings, Friday, May 30

“Singing Strings” will be the first performance in the 2014 Corner Concert Series, which starts at 7 p.m. May 30.

Brittany Peterson and Dan Bergman are a professional violin and guitar duo who have been playing together for several years. They perform at a variety of events, including weddings, private parties, company events and formal recitals.

While both are classically trained, they play a wide variety of music, including Celtic fiddling, classical, modern and classic rock. In fact, they even performed an entire Beatles wedding.

Both Dan and Brittany are music teachers in Clearfield.

The Corner Concerts this summer will raise money and awareness for the Clearfield Arts Studio Theatre. The concerts will take place every Friday, weather permitting, in Shaw Park on the corner of East Market and Front streets in downtown Clearfield.

Concertgoers are encouraged to bring their own chairs. Donations will be collected during the concert.

Trail of New Giants, Parker Dam

10 a.m. – Lou and Helen Adams CCC Museum

It’s one of the most popular park trails. Come learn why as we take a moderately difficult walk up the trail through a recovering forest on the anniversary of a destructive natural disaster. The vista experienced at the highest spot in Parker Dam State Park is well worth it.

At 12 p.m. on Saturdays, there is usually Yu-gi-oh, which is another collectible card game. Advanced deck construction tournaments cost $7.

Also, there will be Magic the Gathering tournaments at 3 p.m. The cost is $6 and the format changes. Participants are encouraged to call with any questions.

There will be an ARCA truck race at CNB Bank Raceway Park on Saturday, May 31. The grandstand opens at 3 p.m.

Children (10 and under) are admitted free. The cost for adults (18 years and older) is $10 and for kids (11-17 years) $5.
The schedule and admission prices are subject to change. The CNB Bank Raceway Park is located at 111 Mount Zion Rd., Clearfield.

Is it a bow, or a spear, or a slingshot? The atlatl, a primitive hunting tool, can be very effective. Learn about its history, how one is made, and even watch as its use is demonstrated. The Clearfield Writing Community is dedicated to the avid writers of Clearfield County who are interested in improving their skills, getting tips and information from other writers and getting their work out into the public.

They provide information and educational tools for all serious writers in the area who hope to achieve publication. A Facebook page is established for members to plan meetings and events, post their work, critique others and generally encourage one another to write and create.

Find Clearfield Writing Community on Facebook or join a regular workshop every Thursday from 6:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Market Street Gallery, located at 109 E. Market St., in downtown Clearfield.
