Second half subs lift U.S. over Azerbaijan

San Francisco, CA, United States (4E Sports) – Mix Diskerud and Aron Johannsson had second half goals to lift the United States over Azerbaijan, 2-0 Tuesday in a World Cup warmup at Candlestick Park .

Diskerud entered the match in the 71st minute and four minutes later banged the ball in from 6 yards off Brad Davis’ free kick.

Then Johannsson, who entered in the 62nd, scored on a open header off a corner kick by Davis in the 81st minute.

Goalie Tim Howard had a key save in the seventh minute by deflecting Vagif Javadov’s bending shot that curved around center back Geoff Cameron.

Howard got his 53rd win to tie Kasey Keller’s U.S. record.

The team’s next warmup is Sunday against Turkey at Harrison, New Jersey, followed by a match with Nigeria six days later in Jacksonville, Florida.
