Tornado destroys ND oil workers’ camp, injures 9

Watford City, ND, United States (4E) – A tornado ripped through an RV park housing oilfield workers in Watford City, ND destroying 15 trailers and injuring nine people on Monday evening.

The tornado that blew away trailers at the Raley RV Park, six miles south of Watford City on Highway 85, was the first to touch down in the state this year. The EF-2 tornado with peak winds of about 120 miles per hour was about 100 yards wide and remained on the ground for about a half-mile, according to the National Weather Service.

Eight of the injured were treated at McKenzie County Hospital and released. One, a 15-year-old girl, remained in critical condition and was transferred to Trinity Hospital in Minot, McKenzie County authorities said.

Golf ball-sized hail also fell in the area, said Karolin Rockvoy from the McKenzie County Emergency Management.
