Vancouver, BC, Canada (4E Sports) – The Seattle Sounders drew with the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-2, Saturday at BC Place to retain the top of the Western Conference standings.
The Whitecaps attacked several times in the opening minutes.
But it was the Sounders that took the initial lead in the 36th minute after Chad Barrett’s header from 12 yards out.
Erik Hurtado finished off a three-man passing play for the Whitecaps to tie the game at the half.
Then Gershon Koffie’s kick from 35 yards reached an empty net to put the Whitecaps up 2-1 in the 66th minute.
Gonzalo Pineda tallied from the penalty spot with eight minutes remaining to tie the game.
The draw moves the Sounders to 26 points and an 8-3-2 record. The Whitecaps (4-2-5) remain nine points behind the leaders.
