Baltimore, MD, United States (4E Sports) – Manny Machado and Nelson Cruz homered while Miguel Gonzalez tossed six solid innings as the Baltimore Orioles salvaged a split of a four-game set with a 4-2 win over Cleveland Indians Sunday at Camden Yards.
Gonzalez (3-3) yielded two runs on four hits with four walks and four strikeouts as the Orioles (25-23) moved 2 ½ games of the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League East.
Preston Guilmet and Brian Matusz combined for two scoreless frames before Zach Britton closed it out in the ninth for his second save of the season for the Orioles.
Trevor Bauer lasted just 4 1/3 frames after giving up four runs on six hits with three walks and eight strikeouts as the Indians slipped to 24-27, last in the American League Central.
It was a shaky start for Gonzalez as he loaded the bases in the first before Lonnie Chisenhall and Nick Swisher hit back-to-back sacrifice flies to give the Indians a quick 2-0 lead.
The Orioles cut the lead in half in the second when Steve Pearce, in the lineup with Chris Davis on paternity leave, scored on a bloop single by Jonathan Schoop.
The Orioles tied it in the third when Cruz doubled to center and scored on a Pearce single to left.
In the fifth, Machado led off with a homer to right. One out later, Cruz belted a shot to left-center for a 4-2 Baltimore lead, ending Bauer’s day.
