New York, NY, United States (4E Sports) – Montreal Canadiens winger Brandon Prust said he feels bad that he had caused a broken jaw to friend and former teammate Derek Stepan of the New York Rangers.
Prust said he was not trying to injure the Rangers center and that he kept his elbow tucked during the hit, trying to make sure he got him in the chest.
“I didn’t want to injure anybody, especially a friend of mine,” Prust emphasized.
He described the injury as unfortunate for both of them. Prust said he texted Stepan once he heard of the broken jaw.
Stepan texted back, according to Prust.
“Yeah, it was short. But I think he understands where I’m coming from,” Prust said about Stepan’s reply.
Prust had no issue with the league’s decision to suspend him two games.
