New York, NY, United States (4E Sports) – Texas Rangers first baseman Prince Fielder will undergo surgery Tuesday for a herniated disk in his neck and will miss the rest of the season.
The recovery time is 3-4 months with a high rate of success.
Fielder was initially given oral medication and had an injection last Saturday. He reported some improvement over the weekend and was originally in Tuesday’s lineup against the Mariners.
He later felt significant weakness in his left side during batting practice.
The Rangers are expected to put Fielder on the disabled list Friday.
Fielder is hitting .247 with three home runs and 16 RBIs in 42 games.
Second baseman Jurickson Profar could also miss the rest of the season after he re-injured the torn muscle on his right shoulder.
