Gainesville, FL, United States (4E Sports) – Several NBA teams have tried to lure coach Billy Donovan out of University of Florida but he turned them all down.
According to sources, the Cleveland Cavaliers offered their coaching vacancy to Donovan, so as the Los Angeles Lakers, Minnesota Timberwolves and Detroit Pistons but he rejected them all.
In 2007, Donovan agreed to a deal with the Magic before backing out.
It was also reported that the Cavaliers are looking at several college coaches to fill their vacancy after firing Mike Brown:
Aside from Donovan, the Cavs also expressed interest in Michigan State’s Tom Izzo and Iowa State’s Fred Hoiberg.
The Cavaliers were among the suitors for UConn’s Kevin Ollie’s services before he agreed to a long-term extension with the team.
Cleveland is also looking at several former NBA coaches who are currently available including Lionel Hollins, George Karl and Alvin Gentry.
