Milan, Italy (4E Sports) – With the many changes expected to happen at AC Milan, Stephan El Shaarawy could leave the team this summer, according to the player’s agent.
El Shaarawy missed most of last season’s campaign due to injury and was helpless as AC Milan missed out on a place in Europe for the first time in 16 years.
The 21-year-old was subject to a bid of “more than 30 million euros” last summer but decided to remain with Milan and helped them qualify for the Champions League.
“Let’s see what Milan have in mind for the transfer market,” said Manuel El Shaarawy, the player’s agent and brother.
“Stephan is certainly a big player and he wants to stay at Milan, but there are many changes being made, starting with who the coach is going to be. We’ll see,” he added.
The agent said his brother has always been a Milan fan but they have to evaluate the situation first before making their next move.
El Shaarawy scored 16 goals in the first half of last season but was limited to just six appearances this term due to a fractured foot. As a result, he also lost his place in the Italy squad for the World Cup.
“That upset him,” said Manuel El Shaarawy. “He had always hoped he would make it, but he was unable to play regularly.”
“Going to the World Cup as a 22-year-old would have been a major event. He wasn’t called up purely because he wasn’t able to play in the past few months, not because he’d lost his place. It’s just a fitness issue, but he’ll have other chances,” he added.
