Jermain Defoe’s early goal fuels Toronto past Red Bulls

Toronto, ON, Canada (4E Sports) – Jermain Defoe and Luke Moore each had a goal as the Toronto FC defeated the New York Red Bulls, 2-0 Saturday at BMO Field.

Defoe took four strides before drilling a shot into the top corner of the net in the 12th minute of play, beating Luis Robles to give TFC a 1-0 lead.

New York nearly found an equalizer in the 82nd minute after Thierry Henry sent the ball to Bradley Wright-Phillips, but the latter shot well over the net.

In the final minute of the five minutes of added time, Moore had an easy tap-in after Robles failed to secure a bouncing ball.

Toronto’s Joe Bendik and Red Bulls’ Robles had a save each.

With the win, TFC is now 4-4-0 in league play with 12 points from eight games.

The Red Bulls fell to 3-4-5 with 14 points.
