Paris, France (4E) – Manufacturing output in France surprisingly declined in March, after expanding in the prior month, according to statistical office INSEE’s report released Wednesday.
Manufacturing output fell 0.7 percent in March compared with 0.3 percent gain in February. Economists had predicted an expansion of 0.1 percent for March. The latest drop snapped the upward streak that started in October last year, according to INSEE.
Overall industrial production fell 0.7 percent monthly in March, after a gain of 0.1 percent in the earlier month. Economists had projected a rise of 0.3 percent.
Factory output rose 0.7 percent in the first quarter from the previous three months, while industrial production slipped 0.3 percent. Manufacturing output jumped 1.8 percent year-on-year and industrial production dropped 0.2 percent.
